Dunbar “Students of the Year”

Editor’s Note: The following material was submitted by the staff at Dunbar Elementary School in Glen Ellen for the award ceremony held at the school board meeting on March 11.

Fifth grader Elizabeth Eagles, daughter of Phil and Kate Eagles, has been in Dunbar since Kindergarten and her personal and academic qualities are an example to all. Her teachers describe her as compassionate, thoughtful, and always willing to help. She is a GATE student, and her high standards for all she does are matched by her ability to make others feel that she cares. She is an essential part of the Leadership/Student Body class, managing the student store, chairing many of the weekly meetings and helping make decisions that require student body funding. She has been on the honor roll at Dunbar for every report card period in her fourth and fifth grade years. She loves acting, art, origami and ballet, and is learning Spanish. Some of her teachers say they would ”love to bottle her positive attitude and sense of humor, and pass it out to everyone.” Her teachers applaud her efforts and say they know her talents and kindness for others will serve her well in the future. “She helps make Dunbar the great school that it is!”
Jacob Little, son of Bryan and Susan Little, has been at Dunbar since the second grade. His teachers say he is an extraordinary student and kind to his peers. He has strong leadership skills, is self-directed, creative, focused and kind. “You will never see Jacob get frustrated,” his teachers say, “or mad, or disappointed. He always has a positive outlook on life and is always caring and considerate of others.” Jacob is a GATE student and has been on the honor roll at Dunbar for every report card period in his fourth and fifth grade years. He is committed to his Leadership activities. His teachers report that his favorite subject is math “because it is complex and there are many aspects to it,” and that he thinks it would be fun to become an inventor to try to invent or improve upon something that is not perfect. His teachers describe him as hard working, imaginative, cooperative, with a great sense of humor. “We are very lucky to have Jacob at Dunbar,” his teachers said. “It is a pleasure to know him.”
