Locally Sourced McDonalds

Editor: I’ve been following today the “expose” on the egg company McDonald’s uses and how due to the horrific conditions and practices McDonald’s was forced to drop them as their egg supplier. This lead me to fantasize that our McDonald’s here in Sonoma (I have no idea who owns it, but IT IS in Sonoma) should start using Nix Chix as their egg supplier and while they are at it should use Green String Farm (or Beltane Ranch or Oak Hill Farm) for their grass-fed beef and veggies (tomatoes, lettuce, onions potatoes, etc.). There is nothing inherently wrong with McDonald’s except for the quality of the ingredients. I would love to drive through and get a burger or egg McMuffin or french fries all made with local organic ingredients! Why not? Let’s do it. It would be international news and start a much needed trend. Fast Food is not going away (crashing a tractor into a McDonald’s made headlines but didn’t really change anything) but I still believe there is a possibility to improve Fast Food within our communities. As an official Slow Food city we could start a precedent and influence the way people eat even outside our idyllic town of Sonoma.
