Clarice Stasz brings Jack London’s women to life

Renowned Jack London scholar and writer Dr. Clarice Stasz brings Jack London’s women to life in a lecture at the Sonoma Community Center on Thursday, March 29, at 6:30 p.m. The lecture is the first in a series of spring events sponsored by the Community Center to celebrate the contributions Jack London made to the Sonoma community. The lecture is free and open to the public, but the Center asks for reservations at 938-4626, to ensure adequate seating.

Clarice Stasz, Ph.D., is Professor Emeritus of History at Sonoma State University. She is author of “American Dreamers: Charmain and Jack London” and numerous articles on the couple. Her talk will be based upon her latest book, “Jack London’s Women,” which is about the lesser-known figures in London’s life, including London’s mother, first wife, and daughters. The account will illustrate their role in his career, and the often difficult consequences of being related to a famous man.

Sonoma legend Jack London – author, adventurer and agrarian dreamer – will be celebrated throughout the spring with lectures, art classes, and tours, plus a unique dinner/auction on Saturday, April 28, to be held at the Kenwood ranch of Darius and Sarah Anderson. With a toast to Jack London’s adventurous ways, the planners are creating the evening with the idea that “this is a party that Jack would attend.” Invitations may be requested from the Community Center; tickets will be $150 per person.
