Harvest intern wanted

Not too shabby – Tokay Hétszölö is seeking a harvest intern (Photo: Sonoma-Tokaj Sister City Committee)

It’s that time of the year! The Sonoma-Tokaj Sister City Committee is putting out the call for a harvest intern for the annual harvest in Tokaj, Hungary.

This is part of an exchange program – the Committee sends a harvest intern to Hungary and our Sister City sends an intern to work in Sonoma at Buena Vista Winery.

This special intern will work at the historic Tokaj Hétszölö Winery. The winery was founded in 1502 (!!) and the vineyards were declared grand cru in 1772. This was the official winery of the Hapsburg Empire!

In 2009, the historic winery was bought by Michel Reybier of Château Cos d’Estournel in France. Reybier renovated the Tokaj Hétszölö Winery, bringing it back to its historic glory (sort of like our own Jean-Charles Boisset did to Buena Vista!). The winery is organic and utilizes traditional European methods.

To qualify, the future intern must be 21 years or older, have a driver’s license – and be able to drive a stick. Additionally, the  intern must be able to handle harvest, cellar duties, and other tasks. Additionally, one must be “flexible, enthusiastic and a mature individual with a strong work ethic.”

Aside from the above, all the candidate has to do is cover their airfare to Hungary and be social – meet and greet with locals and wine industry folks in Tokaj and attend Sister City events.

Interested applicants must submit a letter of interest expressing why they are interested in the internship and a resume. Applications are due April 15. Email your application to: tokaj2@sonomasistercitiesassociation.org.
