Benziger Family Winery’s 2013 Sonoma County Cabernet Sauvignon is a blend of sustainable Cabernet grapes (including a bit of Petit Verdot and Petite Sirah) aged in oak for 16 months. This blend makes for a very deep purple wine.
The nose is very funky, focused on strong ripe blackberry, dewberry, and huckleberry. Yeah, berry. It’s a jammy wine.
The taste is fruit forward, with the berry nose evolving into pomegranate, cinnamon and raspberry pie. It doesn’t linger long, making it an easy porch sipper for a casual get together or a decent house wine to satiate Cab cravings without spending a ton of money.
Consider letting it breath for at least 30 minutes prior to consumption. Drink now. The Benziger Family Winery 2013 Sonoma County Cabernet Sauvignon retails for $20 and is available at Sonoma Market.
