Big week at The Grange

Posted on April 1, 2011 by Sonoma Valley Sun

The Sonoma Valley Grange is hopping. On April 1 and 2, it’s the semi-annual Flea Market, a mega garage sale of plants, crafts, books and all sorts of “re-purposed and no purpose” junk. The event includes homemade food and pie for sale, plus a darn fine cup of joe. Admission to the 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Free admission. 18627 Sonoma Hwy.

On Tuesday, April 5, the group joins with Transition Sonoma Valley to host a potluck dinner and free screening of the film “The Farmer and the Horse. The public is invited to bring a dish to share and learn more about the two organizations.

The film from award-winning journalist Jared Flesher explores difficult questions about sustainability, self-sufficiency, and the realities of organic farming. Local people who have experience with work horses will speak about the relative risks and benefits of farming with horses. The event begins at 6 p.m. at the Grange Hall, 18627 Sonoma Hwy.

There’s more! On Sunday, April 10, The Grange serves up its pancake breakfast from 9 am to noon at the Grange Hall.

The pancakes are made from organic wheat and corn freshly ground that morning. There will also be local, free-range poultry, grilled sausages, fresh squeezed juice, veggie/cheese frittata with free-range eggs, dark roast organic coffee and tea, real maple syrup, and espresso. The all-inclusive breakfast costs $10 for adults and $5 for children.
