Cinco de Mayo in the Springs

Posted on April 28, 2011 by Sonoma Valley Sun

La Luz Center’s annual Cinco de Mayo Fiesta for Education is back, this time in a more intimate setting. The event, which had been held on Sonoma Plaza for many years, will be held on Saturday, April 30, at the La Luz Center itself, at 17560 Greger St.

The event begins at 12:30. Admission is free, but money will be raised for college-bound high school seniors through donations and proceeds from raffle tickets and food.

The Fiesta is a celebration not only of Mexican history, but also of the countless cultures and heritages that make up the local community. Reflecting this multicultural appreciation, a diverse combination of foods will be served, from handmade Mexican tamales and tacos to the classic American hot dog.

Entertainment includes a Ballet Folklorico group from Flowery School and a lively DJ playing music in both Spanish and English.  Free face painting, balloon animals, crafts, and fun jumps guarantee this event will be fun, and affordable for the whole family.

Participants in the annual poster contest will be saluted at the fiesta.  Winners will also have their art displayed at the Sonoma Valley Museum of Art.
