In Sonoma, where Democrats out number Republicans two to one, a group of
Democratic women has decided it’s time to get organized to gain a greater
political voice.
They hope to establish a Sonoma Valley chapter of the National Democratic
Women’s Federation and are inviting all local Democratic women to an
organizing meeting to launch the club on Monday, April 16, at 7 p.m. in the activities room at Sonoma Hills, at 405 West MacArthur St. Refreshment will be served.
The idea to create a chapter of the National Democratic Women’s Federation
was formed during a recent Saturday afternoon when a group of local politically
active women met for tea at Jeanne Kocal’s house.
Kocal said, “We felt that as women if we worked together we could have a
greater impact on the issues important to us. There is strength in numbers. Because there is a national Democratic women’s organization, it made sense to become a part of it.”
Fellow club organizer Helen Rowntree said, “We are particularly interested
in reaching out to young women and encouraging them to register Democrat.”
The direction the club will take and what issues it will work on will
depend on the interests of the members. For more information, call Ilene Addison at 996-7937.
