Zydeco Flames will perform on Saturday, May 26.
The motto at Sonoma Jazz + has always been “let’s give more,” whether it’s more to audience or more to the community. For the audience, that includes Wine and Song off the plaza, the late night shows, and especially the Village Stage, which presents superb regional acts in sets before the main stage gets going and then again at intermission, where applicable. This is where you can see the people that in a few years may well be on the main stage.
Thursday, May 24: 5 to 6 p.m., 7:30 to 9 p.m. Jamie Davis
Think Johnny Hartman; Jamie Davis keeps the tradition of male jazz vocalists going strong, singing romantic ballads backed by a group that features members of the legendary Count Basie Orchestra.
Friday, May 25: 5 to 6 p.m., 7:30 to 9 p.m. Johnny Nocturne Band.
The Johnny Nocturne Band is a vintage jump blues band that takes you back to the ‘40s and ‘50s jump blues/swing era. Truly one of the hottest live acts around.
Saturday, May 26: 5 to 6 p.m., 7:30 to 9 p.m. Zydeco Flames.
Zydeco music – the guitar/accordian dance music of Acadia, the Cajuns west of New Orleans – sets your feet on fire in the best possible way, and the Zydeco Flames are the West Coast’s premiere Zydeco band. Time to dance!
Sunday, May 27: 6:30 to 8:15 p.m. Chris Cain
The roots of all this music is of course the blues, and Chris Cain, with a voice that suggests B. B. King and a thick-toned Gibson Guitar sound that recalls Albert King, is one of Northern California’s finest bluesmen. As the San Jose Mercury News said, he “represents the future of the blues.”
Also, music is great and the food of love, but food for the body isn’t so bad … the festival grounds will be host to the following culinary purveyors: Mary’s Pizza Shack, Sonoma, will offer hot and cold Italian specialties; Glen Ellen Market, Glen Ellen, will offer chowder and wraps; E-Saan Thai House, Sonoma, will offer pad thai, rolls, and daily specials; Blazing Saddles BBQ Catering, Sonoma, will offer fajitas, burritos, tacos, and pollo asada; Elaine Bell Picnic People, Napa, will offer pulled pork and pasta; Nespresso, San Francisco, will be giving away coffee samples; Fiorini Bakery, Sonoma, will offer desserts, sandwiches, and coffee; Let’s Be Frank, San Francisco, will offer indubitably hip hot dogs. And of course cocktails, beer, and Kendall Jackson wines will be available at various locations on the grounds.
General admission and reserved tickets are available by calling 866.527.8499, or by visiting www.sonomajazz.org.
