Data & Errata

With the Vintage Car Classic returning to Infineon Raceway this weekend, we’ve been pondering the difference between “vintage” and plain “old”. And further, who made the rule that houses and cars are allowed to graduate to this more stylish designation when the skin on your neck and last season’s shoes don’t? A quick survey of the back parking lot turns up a menagerie of junkers, none seemingly swell enough to qualify for the coveted adjective: a dusty Town and Country van littered with snack food packaging; a rusted Mazda truck missing several windows from its camper shell; an ancient Beemer with a dislocated rear light; a sad-looking Dodge Intrepid without its rims. Nary a “vintage” ride in the bunch. Apparently, vintage hinges upon level of attention and care lavished upon a thing. With that said, I’d like to renegotiate my neck.
