The annual Sonoma Lavender Festival will be held Saturday and Sunday, June 16 and 17, at the Sonoma Lavender Barn in Kenwood. The festival celebrates its eighth year by adding special lavender cooking classes that will raise money to support the activities of the Valley of the Moon Children’s Home.
Three lavender cooking classes will be presented in a fun and informative demonstration format. The three classes are: Lavender Tea Time, Grilling with Lavender and Lavender Sweets and Treats. Participants are asked to donate a minimum of $20 for each class. Profits will go to the Children’s Home that each year provides a nurturing, educational and loving environment to hundreds of Sonoma County children who have been neglected, abused or abandoned.
The festival is put on by Sonoma Lavender, a grower and manufacturer of more than 300 fragrant products. The grower’s facilities are not normally open to the public but next weekend everyone is invited to experience the 5-acre lavender farm in full bloom. On display will be a myriad of lavender gifts and crafts, plus massages, talks and demonstrations conducted under oaks trees. Renowned chef Richard Harper will be serving up lavender creations for all-day al fresco dining.
