Summertime, Sonoma and Shakespeare!

Enjoy a romantic evening while watching one of the most romantic plays ever produced. Sonoma’s own Avalon Players, in their 27th season under the direction of Kate Kennedy, present the beautifully tragic “Romeo and Juliet.” Shakespeare’s beloved play about love and passion and the fate of the two “star-crossed” young lovers comes alive with Nathalie Tedrick as Juliet and Corry Sheets as Romeo.
The play opens Aug. 17 and continues on Aug. 19, 24, 25, 26, 31 and Sept. 1 and 2. Friday and Saturday performances start at 7 p.m. with Sunday performances starting at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are available now at Reader’s Books, 130 E. Napa Street. They may also be purchased at the gate the night of the performance. The general admission is $20 with children 10 and under free. Bring warm clothes or blankets as the Sonoma summer nights can be chilly.
A casual picnic atmosphere prevails outside under the stars at Gundlach Bundschu’s Amphitheatre at 2000 Denmark St., Sonoma. Wine is available for purchase as well as preordered packages of wine, tickets and savory bites. The Romeo package at $43 per person offers a ticket to the play and a bottle of Gundlach Bundschu Gewürztraminer or Mountain Cuvée. The Juliet package features two tickets to the play, a bottle of Gundlach Bundschu Gewürztraminer or Mountain Cuvée and an artisan cheese and charcuterie picnic for two at $90 a couple. Order at the tasting room, (707) 939-3015 at least two days before the performance.
