“The Suburban Comedy Tour” will return to Sonoma’s historic Sebastiani Theatre on Saturday, Sept. 29 at 8 p.m. as one of many entertainment events that are part of this year’s Valley of the Moon Vintage Festival.
In an effort to enhance its entertainment menu this year, the Vintage Festival is bringing in top musical acts and has added the Saturday night comedy show. Bob Sevilla, Vintage Festival board president, views the Suburbans as the perfect fit for the Vintage Festival. “Comedy breaks down barriers and brings us all together in a festive environment,” said Sevilla. “Regardless of how old you are or where you’re from, you’ll have a fabulous time at this show.”
The Suburbans are four comedians who were raised in four different decades in various suburbs around the Bay Area. Each of them has taken a different path through life, but they all have a talent for making people laugh. As successful stand-up comedians, their paths eventually crossed on the circuit, and it did not take long to discover that their styles meshed.
Ken Koskella, senior member of the Suburbans, had the idea to develop a bundled comedy show, like those made popular by “The Blue Collar Comedy Tour” and “The Kings of Comedy.”
“We have completely different comedic styles, but each of us believes in reaching out to a broad audience that appreciates the humor in life,” he said. “None of us resorts to a rant of foul language about sex, drugs and rock and roll. We get enough of that at home in the suburbs.”
Koskella and his colleagues range in age from late 20s to late…well, he’s not giving that secret away, but he has seen a lot in his life. “I was a successful corporate executive and then a business entrepreneur,” he said. “That prepared me well for my new career in comedy.”
“The Suburban Comedy Tour” will be sharing its unique perspectives on America’s suburban lifestyle for the second time this year. In January, The Suburbans played to a sold-out crowd of over 300 people at the Lodge at Sonoma. Advance purchase of tickets is recommended.
General admission tickets are $22; VIP tickets are $45 and include priority seating and a 7 p.m. champagne and dessert reception in the Sebastiani Theatre featuring complimentary wines by Gloria Ferrer and desserts by the Schellville Grill. Doors open at 7:45 p.m. for general admission.
