Peace charities get $250,000 from major retailer

Wire Report

Brighton, the Los Angeles-based accessory and lifestyle company, designed a bracelet to inspire change and raised $250,000 for four non-profit organizations working towards peace.
Brighton is about working towards a better future, helping people and standing out, said Brighton president Jerry Kohl, president
“In working on this I learned that peace means different things to many different people. For some it is getting their loved ones home from Iraq, for others it’s to protect their children on the way to school, while for others it might be stopping the gang fighting in their neighborhood.”
On Sept. 24, Brighton held its annual conference for all store managers and assistant managers from Brighton retail stores nationwide. One hundred and fifty store managers came together in Pasadena to present checks to these four charities:
Seeds of Peace received $45,000. Seeds of Peace is dedicated to empowering young leaders from regions of conflict with the leadership skills required to advance reconciliation and coexistence.
Women for Women International received $76,000. Women for Women International promotes peace in the home by supporting women in war-torn regions with financial and emotional aid, job-skills training, rights, education and small business assistance so they can rebuild their lives.
USA Cares received $69,000. USA Cares supports those who sacrifice for peace – the members of our military and their families – by offering assistance with such necessities as food, housing, primary vehicle repair, mortgage repayment and rent.
Action Against Hunger received $60,000. Action Against Hunger delivers programs in more than 40 countries in emergency situations of war, conflict and natural disasters to end hunger and create a climate for Peace. www.aah-usa.org.
