Windsor crushes Dragons' title hopes

The Windsor Jaguars, behind a dominating rushing attack and some key special teams play, soundly defeated the visiting Sonoma Dragons 25-13 Friday night in the regular season finale for both teams.
The Dragons, fresh off of a dramatic come-from-behind victory over Sacred Heart, had no answer for Windsor’s Joe Ramos, who finished the game with 279 rushing yards.
The loss, coupled with victories by Healdsburg and Casa Grande, prevents the Dragons from grabbing a share of the Sonoma County League title and could have negative implications on their NCS playoff seeding.
The Dragons finished with a record of 7-2-1 (4-2 in the SCL) and had hoped to secure a top seed and a possible home playoff game with a victory. Friday’s loss will likely drop the Dragons down in the seedings and may force a road playoff game next week.
Sonoma got on the board first, following a Windsor turnover. Max Martin recovered a fumbled punt return by the Jaguars at the 21-yard line, and six plays later Matt Darnell scored from three yards out for an early 6-0 Sonoma lead.
Windsor scored twice in the second quarter, first on an impressive 75-yard drive and then on a 21-yard march following a blocked punt.
The third quarter belonged to the Jaguars’ Ramos, as he rushed for 175 yards and the Windsor defense held Sonoma to only five offensive plays from scrimmage while stretching the lead to 18-6.
Sonoma got a late score from Darnell on a dizzying 23-yard scamper to cut the Jaguar lead to 18-13 with 3:12 remaining in the contest. However, Windsor returned the ensuing onside kick for a 52-yard touchdown to put the game out of reach.
