Dr. Dan Garvey, president of Arizona’s Prescott College, will speak on “Turning Point: The Next Generation” at the Sonoma Veterans Memorial Hall on Wednesday, Feb. 20. The lecture and subsequent conversation with the audience will be sponsored by the Sonoma Ecology Center and the CommonBond Foundation..
U.S. News has named Prescott College as the number one choice for young people who want to “make a difference” in the world. Garvey, whose talk is part of a series he calls the Sustainability Dialogues, has said that “the survival of the planet as we’ve known it may well depend upon a multi-generational movement that places more power and control in the hands of the young.”
Garvey will hold a dialogue session after his lecture to help the audience understand how embracing this era of change brings hope to our youth.
Everyone is welcome to this free evening and encouraged to bring a young person along. Garvey’s lecture begins at 7 p.m. on Feb. 20 and is free to the public.
Anna Pier is director of education for the CommonBond Foundation. She encourages members of the public not only to attend this lecture, but also to contact Yaquelín Alvarez at the Chamber of Commerce to offer to mentor or hire a young person who is struggling or to volunteer to start or participate in one of the projects that help young people who are falling through the cracks.
