Since the failure of Measure E last November, which would have added between $1.2 million to $1.4 million to the school district for libraries, vocational and extra-curricular programs, many local citizens have voluntarily pitched in to help by donating directly to the school district to try to help make up the loss. In a formal communication, the school district announced that so far, nearly $13,000 has been contributed. “This is a tremendous inspiration to all of us who work each day to keep our schools active, vibrant and healthy places for our students. We know that others have donated to the Sonoma Valley Education Foundation with the same goal in mind – to keep the public schools of Sonoma strong and safe in these rough economic times. Thanks to all of you. We are truly blessed to have this extra support.” Superintendent Barbara Young said that the money would be used for some of the same purposes that Measure E would have covered.
