Dr. Jill Mercado joins Altimira Veterinary Hospital

On Jan. 15 Altimira Veterinary Hospital welcomed the addition of new associate veterinarian Dr. Jill Mercado to its team. A graduate of UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine, class of 2005, Dr. Mercado tracked small animal medicine and surgery and is interested in exotic animals in addition to dogs and cats.  Following graduation, she worked for two years in general small animal practice in Petaluma before joining Altimira.
“My new team members and clients have been very welcoming and it has been a great experience so far,” Dr. Mercado said. “The case work is exciting and the level of medicine is excellent. I enjoy using the laser for surgery and I really like having digital X-rays – it makes reading X-rays easy! I enjoy all aspects of small animal medicine and also like working with exotic pets, including reptiles. Come and visit me here and say hi.”
Dr. Mercado’s pets include Mosquito the cat, Tony the turtle, and a fish named Whity. Her hobbies include fixing up her new fixer-upper home. In her spare time, her husband is teaching her to play catch. Dr. Jill has been seeing new patients and helping out with emergencies, too. “There are always new things to learn in every practice,” she said. “It is busy, and the standards are very high, but it is fun. We laugh and have a good time.”
