First District Supervisor Valerie Brown made good on a promise Monday, March 17, by speaking to the Leadership Class at Sonoma Valley High School. She was the last in a lineup of community leaders who were handpicked by Three House MultiMedia and auctioned off as a lot at last year’s Sunnys gala to address the group.
“It was an absolute joy to talk with the Sonoma Valley High School Leadership Class,” Brown said afterwards. “They truly represent the leaders of tomorrow – articulate, knowledgeable, eager and engaged.”
Tammy Rivara, the teacher in charge of the Leadership Class, returned the compliments. Speaking of Brown, Rivara said, “She was down-to-earth and frank. I think the students really enjoyed her visit.
“She was here for about 40 minutes and shared her experiences at different levels of politics. It was really interesting because she explained the functions of the Board of Supervisors and how they differ from (other organizations) at the city and state level. She’s been involved in all three.”
In a question-and-answer question following Brown’s comments, the students were able to direct their own inquiries to the supervisor.
Some 50 students from the sophomore, junior, and senior classes make up the Leadership Class, which is charged with organizing all student activities, such as homecoming, parades, rallies and dances.
