Viansa is wine partner for Fourth of July Celebration
Viansa Winery has stepped up to support the Sonoma Community Center’s production of the Old Fashioned Fourth of July Parade and Plaza Celebration.
Viansa has also partnered with the Sonoma Community Center and Sonoma Birding to help produce the first Bird Camp this summer, and continues to support Sonoma Jazz+ and the Wine Country Weekend Auction.
The Community Center is grateful for this partnership, and encourages the community to stop by the winery for barbecue and live bands every weekend.
Fourth of July
Music on the lawn
12:30 p.m. – Vox Populi (Voice of the People)
The vocal group, led by Mark Dennis, sings popular rock songs from the 1960s, ‘70s and ‘80s, emphasizing strong vocal harmonies. The group’s song list includes music from the Beatles, Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, Talking Heads and many others.
1 p.m. – Crossfire
This talented cover band features great musicians performing Motown favorites, R&B, funk and reggae. Jodi Stevens and Dan Reganare are lead vocalists. Bandleader and bassist Michael Halem is joined by lead guitarist Mike Viani, trombonist David Prescott, keyboardist Robert Eckman, drummer Robin Bordow, Jim Passarall on trumpet, saxaphonist Jordon Wardlaw and sound engineer Ric Romano.
3 p.m. – Carlos Herrera Band
Led by Costa Rican native Carlos Herrera, the band specializes in Latin music from around the world, playing an eclectic blend of styles that includes rhumba, salsa, samba, bossa nova, classical, tango and pop. Joining bandleader Herrera is guitarist Mario Ramirez, bass player Jim Allen and percussionist Dan Abela.

The Sonoma Community Center extends its thanks and appreciation to all of the participants in the Patriotic Ceremony, especially the Home Town Band.
Youth Stage
A new addition to this year’s festivities, the Youth Amphitheater Stage will feature performances throughout the afternoon.
12:30 – Teen Jazz Jam
The Jazz Jam is performed by students from the Sonoma Community Center’s Sonoma Jam Jazz Camp. Partnering this year with Sonoma Jazz+ and the Sonoma Valley Jazz Society, the students were led by Dana Land, who assembled a group of talented teachers to teach students jazz classics, how to play by ear and how to conduct themselves on stage. Musical selections will include “Summertime,” “Tequila,” “Fly Me to the Moon” and many others.
2 p.m. – ETC Teen Vocal Ensemble, “Taking It To The Streets”
Twelve high-energy teens bring the music of the Beatles to life. Under the direction of Cat Austin, the group performed to sold-out houses earlier in the month. Director Austin has taught young actors and singers for the past ten years and is the founder of ETC!

Fourth of July poster art
The 2008 Fourth of July poster was created and designed by Elizabeth Tashman, well-known in the community as the Sonoma Charter School art instructor and the teen art coordinator for the Sonoma Community Center. Her “July 4th Celebration!” poster was painted with acrylics on canvas and created specifically for the event.
