‘Aida’ to be shown Jarvis Conservatory

Posted on July 10, 2008 by Sonoma Valley Sun

The dramatic opera “Aida” by Giuseppe Verdi will be presented in digital high definition at 7 p.m. on Saturday, July 26, at the Jarvis Conservatory. It will provide a rare opportunity to experience an operatic performance from Italy’s most prestigious opera house, Milan’s historic Teatro alla Scala.
The libretto tells the story of an Ethiopian princess who is captured and brought into slavery in Egypt. Radames, a military commander, struggles as he tries to choose between his love for Aida and his loyalty to the pharaoh. To complicate matters, Radames is also loved by the pharaoh’s daughter, Amneris, although he does not have mutual feelings.
“Aida” is sung in Italian with English subtitles and runs about 2 hours and 37 minutes, not counting the intermission. Tickets are $20, available at the door on the evening of the event or in advance on line at www.jarvisconservatory.com. The conservatory is at 1711 Main St., Napa; 707.225.5445.
