Rose Marie Carey, 89, of Sonoma, died July 3, 2008 in Sonoma. Rose was the wife of the late Andrew Carey and the mother of Delores Edmond, Gary Carey, Barbara Caldwell, David Carey, Susan Alvey and the late Patricia Blunt. She was the mother-in-law of Dawn Hope Carey, Cliff Caldwell, Rose Marie Carey and Raymond Alvey. She was the dear sister of Billie Goncalves and Evelyn Stuart, adored grandmother of 21 grandchildren and proud grandmother of many great-grandchildren.
Rose was a sales lady at Sprouse-Reitz in Sonoma for 15 years. She was a member of the Golden Age Club. She loved to play bingo, and travel and loved all sports, especially the Giants. She was most happy with family around her. She was a 70-year resident of Sonoma and native of Dixon, Calif.
Funeral services were held at Duggan’s Mission Chapel on Wednesday, July 9. Interment was held in the family plot at Mountain Cemetery. Donations to the American Cancer Society, 1451 Guerneville Road, Suite 220, Santa Rosa, CA 95403.

Rose Angela Hassell, a longtime resident of Sonoma and a native of Oakland, died on July 4, 2008 at her home in Sonoma. She was 97. Born on February 19, 1911 to Joseph and Josephine Derenzi, she attended Oakland schools. She was preceded in death by her husband Walter Hassell in 2005 and by her son Leland De Lucca in 1982.
Rose moved with Walt from Oakland to Sonoma in 1950. She worked for 18 years as a supervisor at the Sonoma Developmental Center, in Medical Records. She and Walt traveled extensively, visiting the Orient, Europe, Hawaii and Mexico, but Sonoma was their home. Rose loved music and she loved gardening. Rose is survived by her loving son, Gordon De Luca, of Sonoma; by her sister-in-law, Felicia Pearce, also of Sonoma; and by her two stepsons: Clifford Hassell of Levenworth, Wash. and Donald Hassell of Apache Junction, Ariz. She was the loving grandmother of five, and great-grandmother of five.
Friends are invited to attend a visitation on Thursday, July 10 at Duggan’s Mission Chapel, 525 W. Napa St., Sonoma, at 10 a.m., followed by funeral services at 1 p.m. at Trinity Episcopal Church 275 E. Spain St., Sonoma. Interment will follow the service at Mountain Cemetery, 90 First St. W., Sonoma. Arrangements under the direction of Duggan’s Mission Chapel.

James “Seamus” McGlade went home to be with his Lord and Savior on July 3, 2008, after a courageous battle with lung cancer. He was born in Ireland and immigrated to this country, through Ellis Island as a small child. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. He then joined the Merchant Marines for a short period of time and sailed aboard Army transports where he met his wife Anne. They married in 1951 and had a wonderful life together for 56 years. Together they loved going on cruises to numerous parts of the world. Seamus was an international representative for the labor union from which he retired and then entered the real estate profession in Sonoma. He was a fun-loving man who enjoyed his friends and always had a smile and a kind word for those he knew.
He especially loved the ocean, music, reading, dogs, his garden and quoting Irish sayings. He leaves behind his loving wife and best friend, Anne. He also leaves numerous nieces and nephews who adored him, as well as many, many friends.
Friends are invited to attend a Memorial Mass at St Leo’s Catholic Church, 601 W.Agua Caliente Road, on Tuesday, August 5 at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, if one so desires, donations may be made in his name to Hospice of Marin, 17 E.
