Whether a true fashionista or a bit fashion-challenged, everyone should find something appealing at the sixth annual Fashion in the Vineyards benefiting the Boys & Girls Clubs of Sonoma Valley. This year’s show, themed “Wild about Fashion,” will hit the runway at Cline Cellars Barrel Room at 5 p.m. on Thursday Sept. 11.
Touted as the “coolest, hippest, and most fun event in town,” the evening will begin with guests being greeted with a signature cocktail known as “Tigers Revenge,” which will be made with vodka donated by Beringer. While strolling the Barrel Room with cocktail in hand, guests can peruse the auction items to go on the bidding block. Lots include “A Host of Golden Daffodils,” presenting the lucky bidder with 2,500 daffodil bulbs planted on his or her property just in time for a spectacular spring show. Additional items include a winemaker dinner, a Julie Schindler designer coat, dinner and wine pairing for four at Santé Restaurant in the Fairmont Sonoma Mission Inn, a San Francisco getaway at the luxurious Ritz Hotel and wine lots from local vintners.
The highlight of the evening will be the spectacular designed runway extravaganza, choreographed and produced by fashion icon Helen Lyall. The show will feature her 2008 European and domestic luxury line of clothes and accessories by a variety of name designers that will showcase fashions from casual to elegant evening wear. Professional models and Boys & Girls Clubs Champions will wear the show-stopping fashions presented in a series of vignettes. Attendees also have the opportunity to go backstage after the show to view, try on and purchase any of the fashions and accessories, which will be available in a range of sizes. Helen Lyall will be available for consultation, assuring everyone will look their finest. A percentage of her clothing sales will benefit the Boys & Girls Clubs of Sonoma Valley.
Menswear provided by Mario’s Menswear in St. Helena will feature contemporary casual to dress lines from Haupt, Jane Barnes (including cutting-edge shirts by Robert Graham and Epon), Zanella slacks and Gimo’s Italian leather. The evening’s entertainment will commence with Boys & Girls Clubs members modeling children’s and young adult fashions from Kohl’s Department Store. Catalina Skin and Body will provide the hair and make-up and Douglas Thompson Photography of Sonoma will provide photography.
An Affair to Remember Catering will serve up international foods to include world cuisine, Mediterranean, and Asian delights presented at various food stations. Delectable desserts by Mrs. Baker’s Kitchen of Sonoma will satisfy every sweet tooth.
The show and auction fund a substantial portion of the Boys & Girls Clubs’ yearly budget. The mission of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Sonoma Valley is to provide positive opportunities for youth to learn and succeed. The club is open 50 weeks per year, during the often critical after-school hours of 2 to 7 p.m., Monday through Friday, and 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. during non-school days and summer vacation, when kids have free time and need positive, productive outlets.
