Hwy 12 paving to finish Friday
It’s all over but the sealing – that’s the word from Caltrans regarding an extensive repaving project on Highway 12 between Agua Caliente Road and Fremont Drive.
Caltrans spokeswoman Alicia Sequeira said that paving and electrical work for the project’s Sonoma portion was completed Aug. 29. Crews have been working overnight since Tuesday to seal the roadway, a task expected to finish tomorrow. Sequeira said Caltrans will be enforcing the 6 p.m. to 10 a.m. no-parking rule throughout the work zone, with flaggers onsite to direct traffic until the project is complete.
Meanwhile, one-way traffic control will be in effect for the Valley’s main thoroughfare at two other locations: at Waterman Avenue in the Springs for water and sewer work from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. and at Libby Avenue in Kenwood for utility undergrounding between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Expected delays in both locations are estimated at 15 minutes.
Siphoners hit West Napa Street
The owners of several vans parked in downtown Sonoma awoke recently to find that the vehicles had been drained of gasoline.
Approximately 60 gallons of gasoline were missing from three of the vehicles around 9:30 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 25, Sonoma police Sgt. Dave Thompson said last week.
The vans were parked in the 200 block of West Napa Street. Another van in the same location was found bereft of fuel around the same time on Aug. 26, but Thompson said it’s unclear exactly how much had been taken. Also unknown was whether or not the fourth van was the subject of a fresh theft or if it simply hadn’t been checked the day before.
Total loss was estimated at $240.
One dead in Napa Road crash
Authorities have not yet released the name of the driver killed Friday afternoon when his pickup truck smacked into a tree on Napa Road.
The wreck occurred around 2:10 p.m. just east of Burndale Road, according to California Highway Patrol officer Jaret Paulson. Witnesses said the driver, a 57-year-old man, was westbound on Napa Road when his 1993 Toyota pickup began weaving, then cut across the eastbound lane and into a large tree on the other side.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene, Paulson said. He added that the driver was using his seat belt, and that the case was being investigated as a possible DUI.
Napa Road was under one-way traffic control until around 4 p.m.
