Deputies arrest skateboarder

A 19-year-old Sonoma man was booked into county jail for resisting arrest after he reportedly buzzed several participants in Sunday’s Vintage Festival parade.
“We don’t pick the place or the time that these things happen … it’s unfortunate that happened in front of a whole hometown parade,” Sonoma County sheriff’s Sgt. Dave Thompson said Monday. “To people who aren’t used to seeing those activities, yeah – it’s a little shocking.”
The man was taken into custody around 12:30 p.m. on First Street West across from Steiner’s Tavern. Thompson said that the man was riding his skateboard in and out of groups of paraders, including several children, and tried to punch at one participant. He added that the man ignored at least three police warnings to desist.

“I tried to grab him, he pulled away, then it was a foot chase up First Street West,” Thompson said.
Thompson said he tried to tase the flailing suspect but the weapon’s cartridge had come off during the chase and “no tasing occurred.” Two deputies had to carry the handcuffed and shouting man into a waiting sheriff’s cruiser on West Napa Street.
“He actually did a somersault in the back of the patrol car,” Thompson said, adding that no other injuries were reported save a scrape to the man’s elbow.
