A large tree fell across Riverside Drive around 4:30 a.m. today between Boyes Boulevard and Baxter Avenue, downing utility lines and apparently cracking a water main but causing no injuries.
The 150-foot-tall oak, which completely blocked the roadway and several driveways, also knocked down a smaller tree and brushed — but didn’t damage — a neighbor’s truck. Water could be seen bubbling up from under the tree’s root ball.
Emergency crews were on scene within minutes, and were trying to remove the tree at press time.
