Why would water usage not decline in the months when rain is plentiful? Could it be that vineyard and residential sprinkler systems, set to time of day, do not shut down in the event of rain? If so, sprinkler owners will be glad to hear, this is a waste the Sonoma County Water Agency has a plan to stop.
Carrie Pollard, water conservation specialist for the City of Sonoma and the Valley of the Moon Water District, announced today that both the city and the water district are participating in a rain sensor rebate program. They will give $50 to sprinkler owners to install a sensor that immediately turns the sprinkler off when raindrops fall. The owner has two choices, said Pollard, either install the sensor themselves, and then agree to have a post-installation inspection, or they can have a certified professional install it, and no inspection will be necessary.
Pollard said they would be starting out with a small number of rebates to start, just 100 hundred for the city and 100 for the Valley of the Moon. She said they were hoping to see a savings in water use, particularly in the spring and fall. To participate or learn more, call 707.547.1968.
