Back pain and joint stiffness are among the most common reasons people visit their doctors. A major cause of this type of pain is poor posture. Restoring proper posture is one of the simplest and most important ways to keep your spine flexible and joints healthy. Sonoma Valley Hospital/Valley Physical Therapy will provide free postural screenings to assist in identifying these problems and ultimately preventing pain and stiffness before it starts. Rob Sprifke, PT, clinical supervisor at Valley PT states, “Misalignment of the structures of the spine can cause muscle tightness and ongoing body aches. When standing, we should be able to draw a straight line from our earlobe, through to the shoulder hip, knee and ankle. Posture awareness will benefit younger and older adults, athletes and both men and women.”
The screening involves a brief questionnaire, measurement of the spine’s range of motion, strength assessment and postural evaluation. The screening will take place on Tuesday, Feb. 17 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Valley Physical Therapy, located at 18971 Hwy. 12. Space is limited; please call 707.935.5348 to schedule an appointment.
