Sonoma’s dry creek beds swelled with water again after a rainy President’s Day weekend. The rain will probably let up Tuesday afternoon, but expect more showers this coming weekend, according to Brian Tentinger, meteorologist with the National Weather Service.
“The overall large-scale pattern has kind of changed,” he said. There had been a high-pressure pattern causing storms to head north and east of California’s central coast, riding up and over the ridge and not hitting the Valley.
The rainfall totals as of Tuesday morning were:
Vallejo’s Home State Park – 4.6 inches
Sonoma County Airport – 3.4 inches
Napa downtown – 4 inches
The total rainfall in Sonoma to date stands at 12.27 inches as of Monday morning, compared to 18.91 inches at this time last year. Most of Northern California is considered to be in severe to extreme drought, according to the U.S. Drought Monitor. It would take quite a few more storms to recharge the reservoirs.
There was some minor flooding on Valley roads due to the downpour. Tentinger said models show another chance for showers on the weekend, with an area of low pressure coming in from the north and positioning itself off the coast.
