Robert H. (Bob) Cannard died peacefully at home in Sonoma on Sunday March 8, 2009.
Bob was born on May 31, 1926, in Danville, Penn., and moved to Sonoma Valley with his family in 1960. He has since been an active participant in valley life from environmental issues, education, agriculture and history, to the wine industry, local business development and elected office. He was appointed honorary Alcalde of the City of Sonoma in 2001.
Bob is survived by his wife Edna, sons Tim, Bob, Edward, James, Tom and Jack, grandchildren Tim, Colleen, Christopher, Ross, Marius, Oliver and Edison, and great grandchildren Adrianna, Olivia, Christina and Allison. The extended Cannard family includes David Novelo, Emilie, Bonnie, Joanne, Linda, Julie, Elaine, Anne Marie, Ditty and Stephanie.
Bob’s work in horticulture, as a nursery owner, landscaper, college lecturer, magazine writer and tireless promoter of locally grown food has earned him a worldwide circle of friends and colleagues, and an honorary professorship from Penn State. It also led to lifelong friendships with many of the older established families that form the agricultural base of Sonoma Valley.
At the family’s request, funeral arrangements will be private, but Edna will honor Bob’s own wishes for an ox roast around the time of his birthday, to celebrate a life well lived.

Simone A. Fauci, 77, passed away peacefully on March 8, 2009 in Sonoma. She was born Jan. 27, 1932 in Paris France to John and Madame Leque Anouze. She was a hairdresser and three-year resident of Sonoma.
At her request, no formal services will be held. She will be laid to rest next to her late husband, Martin Fauci, at Pleasant Hills Memorial Park in Sebastopol. The cremation was performed by Mission Cremation Services, under the direction of Duggan’s Mission Chapel.
Carol Ann Jennings, 52, passed away gently from us on March 8, 2009 in Sonoma, after a brief illness. Her devoted husband of 23 years, Corey, and her father were at her side.
Carol was born on Oct. 14, 1956 in Elmhurst, Ill. She was the daughter of Joseph and June Vercellotti of Hilton Head Island, S.C. Carol attended Ohio State University and spent many years in the travel industry in Cleveland, Boston and San Francisco, traveling to many exotic places herself. She met her husband in Half Moon Bay, Calif., which was one of her favorite places on earth. While in California she worked in Market Research for the Nestle Corp and A.C. Nielsen Co. She also volunteered for the Sonoma County Red Cross, Home Alone Visitation and Sonoma Valley Hospital. As an avid reader and writer she endorsed and promoted literacy for children.
She is survived by her husband, parents, three brothers and three sisters, Mary (Bob) Richardson of Denver, Colo., Helen Vercellotti of Bluffton, S.C., Michael (Nancy) Vercellotti of Andover, N.H., Susan Vercellotti of Windsor, Ohio, Peter (friend Michele) Vercellotti of Portland, Ore. and Thomas (Linda) Vercellotti of Lisle, Ill., two nieces, Anna and Lea, two nephews, Sooki and Matthew and a large extended family of aunts, uncles and cousins, and her beloved cat, Peabody.

Todd Anthony Williams passed away peacefully in Santa Rosa on March 5, 2009 after a courageous two and a half year battle with cancer. He was born on June 16, 1959 to Richard and Mary Williams in Hastings, Mich. and moved to California at the age of 2. Todd worked as a Mechanical Engineer since 1983, the last 12 years for Peterson Mechanical. Todd was a 19-year resident of Sonoma.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Mary Williams, and his daughter Sara Michelle Williams. Todd is survived by his loving wife Domini (Maffei) Williams, children, Maxwell and Lisa Williams; siblings, Jeff Williams, Mark (and wife Cecilia) Williams, and Ann (and husband Steve) Riley; in-laws, Francine and Bill Maffei, and sister-in-law, Julia Maffei Holsworth. He is also survived by his nieces and nephews: Jennifer and Scott Riley, Brennan, Niko and Antonio Skuljan, Christina (and husband Brandon Carrillo), Michelle, Stephanie and Mary Williams and grandnephew Luke Carrillo.
Friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Todd’s Life at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 21 at The London Lodge, 13750 Arnold Dr., in Glen Ellen. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Todd’s honor may be made to the Todd Williams Memorial Scholarship Fund, c/o the Presentation School, P.O. Box 1220, Sonoma, Calif. 95476. A private inurnment will be held at Mountain Cemetery at a later date.

Cara S. Howarth, early on a cozy rainy Sunday our daughter, niece, sister, aunt and friend died peacefully at her home in Sonoma, on March 1, 2009.
Cara, a native San Franciscan, entrepreneur and avid silk dyer, had the biggest heart, which was open to all, without judgments. She loved life and lived deeply.
Her father and brother, both Joseph Howarth, preceded her in death. She is survived and will be greatly missed by her mother Sylvia Howarth, Aunts Bonnie and Grace, sisters Regan Reid and Erin Doyle (Mike) and by her nieces Emily, Melissa, Jamie and great-nephew Alex. A specials thanks to Elizabeth McHugh (Tookie) for her endless abundance of TLC, to her extended family at SVFAA, for all their love and support and to Hospice for an easier gentler way.
Family and friends will celebrate Cara’s life at a date yet to be determined. Donations in her honor can be made to Hospice of Petaluma.

Leon Robert McCarthey Sr., passed away peacefully in his hometown of Monterey, Calif. on Feb. 13, 2009, after a lengthy illness. He was 57. Leon was born in California to Robert and Emille McCarthey. He graduated from Seaside High School in 1969. Leon loved playing his guitar and writing songs, and was a member of numerous bands in the Bay Area. He enjoyed going to auctions and thrift shops, and was very proud of his 1967 Ford pickup truck. His best times, by far, were those spent with his son, Leon Jr. They went fishing, biking, walking, truck stops, and fire stations, and enjoyed just being together watching TV. Leon Sr. is survived by his wife, Lori, and their beloved son, Leon Jr. Leon Sr. is also survived by his sister, Sylvia and her fiancé, Gene Lavorini, as well as many family members and friends who cared for him very much.
A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, March 21, from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Chanterelle Clubhouse, 165 St. James St., off of Arnold Dr.
Lucille Florence Hayes née Vasseur, passed away peacefully at home in Sonoma on a sunny Saturday morning on Jan. 31, 2009; joining her husband Everett E. Hayes, friends and family.
After a quiet upbringing on Alameda by her parents Louis and Josephine, Lucille lived a heady youth; as for many of her generation, The War was life changing. She left college in San Francisco to join the WAACs, serving in Fort Sheridan, Chicago. In Miami, she married her handsome GI from back home.
For some 40 years, Sonoma was her true home. Widowed since 1986, she never remarried but shared her unique humor and gift of gab with friends near and far through her love of letter writing. Her great joys were her grandchildren, radio, books, flowers and daily strolls around the Plaza to visit friends. Her daily rounds were Round Table Pizza, Longs and Baskin Robbins.
Her son Ron, loving grandchildren Wendy (and Stephen), Jeremy, Angelique and Nicole (and Seth), and great-grandson Logan survive her. Lucille was blessed with dear friends who were like the siblings she never had. Many have passed, but Rosemarie and Ben were there to the end, Ruthmary and Owen watched over her and Billie and Lois gave her solace.
