Lucky Limerick Contest winner

Larson Family Winery held its first “Lucky Limerick Contest” with almost100 limericks entered in three categories. The limericks were judged by an esteemed group of professionals; Jody Purdom, George Webber and Kathleen and Gerald Hill. All of the winning entries can be found on display at Larson Family Winery.
The winners in the 21 and over category are: first place, Randy Kalie of San Leandro for his limerick titled “Los Carneros” and in second place, Brian Abel of Sonoma with his limerick titled “Rose.” In the 13-20 year old category, Conness Miller from Half Moon Bay won first place, and Chelsea Rose Shiery of Boyes Hot Springs won second. The winner in the 12 and under category were a group of students from Mrs. Watson’s third grade class at Prestwood School in Sonoma (Hannah McCulligh, Hannah Chun, Dustin Hellman, Brooke Zellers and Heather Durfee). Second place in that category is a tie between two Prestwood students, Alyssa Schimm (also in Mrs. Watson’s class) and Alissa Orr (in Mrs. Katzel’s third grade class).

First Place 21 Years and Over
“Los Carneros”
The wine region now known as Carneros
Was once home to Spanish Vaqueros.
From this fertile terroir
Comes great Pinot Noir,
And Cardonnay fit for Bacchus or Eros.
Randy Kalie, San Leandro

First Place 13-20 Years
With Erica, Will and Wyatt
The Larson’s house is not so quiet.
The parents are fine,
As long as there’s wine
On the vine, they’ve no need to go buy it.
Conness Miller, Half Moon Bay

First Place 12 Years and Under
Have you tasted the wonderful Sonoma Valley wines?
Our awesome grapes grow on the wavy vines.
Especially in the fall
Red, yellow and orange leaves call
“Try our wines, there are many delicious kinds!”
Hannah McCulligh, Hannah Chun, Dustin Hellman, Brooke Zellers and Heather Durfee. Third-graders from Mrs. Watson’s class at Prestwood Elementary School.

Second Place 21 Years and Over
“Rose”
My wife likes to drink Chardonnay
But I like to drink Cabernet
We went to a shrink
In Sonoma, I think
Who said we should try a Rose.
Brian Abel, Sonoma

Second Place 13-20 Years
“Drink of Sonoma”
Swirl your glass around
Nobody make a sound
Let your palette taste the wine
The very thought is sublime
The drink of Sonoma will have you spell bound.
Chelsea Rose Shiery, Boyes Hot Springs

Second Place 12 Years and Under (Tie)
Sonoma Valley is filled with grapes
You can even use them in your crepes
When you look out your window light…
You will see a gorgeous sight.
Come to the Sonoma Valley for your weekend escape.
Alyssa Schimm, Sonoma

Eating grapes is so good
I eat more than I should
The grapes are all gone
They picked them at dawn
Now there is only wood.
Alissa Orr, Sonoma
