Leon Robert McCarthey Sr., passed away peacefully in his hometown of Monterey, Calif. on Feb. 13, 2009, after a lengthy illness. He was 57. Leon was born in California to Robert and Emille McCarthey. He graduated from Seaside High School in 1969. Leon loved playing his guitar and writing songs, and was a member of numerous bands in the Bay Area. He enjoyed going to auctions and thrift shops, and was very proud of his 1967 Ford pickup truck. His best times, by far, were those spent with his son, Leon Jr. They went fishing, biking, walking, truck stops, and fire stations, and enjoyed just being together watching TV. Leon Sr. is survived by his wife, Lori, and their beloved son, Leon Jr. Leon Sr. is also survived by his sister, Sylvia and her fiancé, Gene Lavorini, as well as many family members and friends who cared for him very much.
A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, March 21, from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Chanterelle Clubhouse, 165 St. James St., off of Arnold Dr.
Steven “McGurdy” Ligouri, 54, passed away suddenly on Saturday, March 14, 2009 at his home in Sonoma. A long-time resident, 1973 graduate of Sonoma Valley High School, Steve was the oldest of four children and is survived by his two sisters, Lynn and Janet, and his brother, Michael. Strong-willed, Steve lived life with great passion … at full speed all the time. He was an extraordinary fisherman, avid hunter and intense softball player and coach. Steve was a die-hard Raiders fan.
Steve was the type of person you would want on your side on the softball field, at the job site or navigating the sloughs at night. Steve was incredibly loyal to family and friends, and he will be deeply missed.
