Jean Hodgson passed away, with her family, at her home, on Tuesday, March 31, following a short illness. She was 93. Jean Adele Martin was born Jan. 6, 1916 in Reynoldsburg, Ohio, to Laura (Conrad) Martin and Clyde Martin, a pharmacist and the Mayor of Reynoldsburg. She was the oldest of three children. She cared deeply for her brothers Conrad (deceased) and Jon, and for their families. She married John J. Hodgson (Pete), who was the love of her life, in 1937 and worked with him in their pharmacy in Columbus, Ohio, after Pete’s service in the Navy during the war.
Jeanie joined her son Peter and his family at their home in Sonoma in 1997 and spent the last 12 years supporting her family and entertaining friends and family.
Her passing was peaceful, quick and painless and she was surrounded by her family. Mother always did things her way, and was always in a hurry, and her passing was no exception. She will be missed by her family and friends for her wit, her many stories and her generosity to all those she loved and cared for. Many will remember and miss her cookies and pies and other assorted acts of kindness and generosity.
Jeanie is survived by her brother Jon and sister-in-law Cookie Martin of The Villages, Florida, by her son, Peter Hodgson and daughter-in-law Sonja Rasmussen, her beloved grandchildren, Libby (Jason) White of San Francisco, Eliot of Philadelphia and Martin, Victor and Kirsten of Sonoma; as well as many nephews and nieces.
Her family wishes to thank all who have taken such wonderful care of her and have helped fill her years in Sonoma with good health, good times, joy and happiness. At Jeanie’s request there will be a private memorial at her home, which was the center of her life. Special thanks to Hospice of the Bay for their gentle and compassionate care of our dear mother, and we request that contributions be made to them, 190 W. Napa St., Sonoma, in her memory in lieu of flowers.
