Flag Day

Photos by Melania Mahoney
On Sunday, June 14 the Native Sons of the Golden West prepared 700 half chickens, along with hot dogs and other barbecue grub, for the annual Flag Day Celebration on the Plaza. The event honored the first raising of the California Bear flag in 1846 and included a ceremony and re-enactment by local historian George Webber. Attendees also enjoyed a wide selection of 63 types of beer and music by The Whiskey Thieves as the barbecue helped to raise funds for the Native Son’s support of Sonoma youth sports, historical preservation and cleft palate reconstruction projects.
