After 126 years, Owen Wynne finally received a proper Irish wake. The event – held at, where else, Murphy’s Irish Pub – was a fundraiser for the Friends of Sonoma Cemeteries and included live music with Kith and Kin. Many a pint was raised in memory of Wynne, an actual Sonoma resident who was hastily buried in 1883. Sponsored by The Sun, the festivities included a limerick contest, topped by John Smithies, Bill Shang and, with the winning ode, Michael Heiman:
There once was man named Owen Wynne,
Who enjoyed both his wine and his gin.
In debt he was found,
Dead face down to ground
He’s still Owen, and that’s not sin
