A grisly car accident claimed the life of a Maynard Albertson, 69, of Sonoma. The accident occurred in the 20,000 block of Broadway in the mid-morning hours of October 31. Albertson, the sole occupant of the modified specialty car, was ejected from the vehicle and sustained fatal injuries, only blocks from his home. The vehicle did not have seatbelts.
While details are still sketchy, a lone witness to the accident helped officers piece together what may have happened. The witness, a woman travelling north on Broadway in the vicinity of Shainsky Road, passed the victim’s vehicle, which was moving in the opposite direction at an unknown rate of speed. However, once past, she recalls hearing the sound of an engine accelerating, and glanced in her rearview mirror. As she watched, the victim’s car lost control and rolled over, crossing into the northbound lanes of traffic and collided with the dirt embankment. The witness stopped and called 911.
Napa California Highway Patrol responded to the 11:35 a.m. call and dispatched officers to the scene. The CHP was assisted by emergency personnel from the Sonoma Valley Fire and Rescue Authority.
