Well Done!
Sonoma Parlor #111, your local Native Sons of the Golden West, throws its annual Surf and Turf dinner Saturday night at the Vets Hall. The annual sea and steak spectacular is a fundraiser for Sonoma Valley High School scholarships and other school programs. Weak-willed vegetarians welcomed. EZ Kewl provides the tunes – some rare, but all well-done — for this likely sell-out. 6 to 10 p.m. $35, Sonoma Veterans Hall. 996-8386.
Flights of artistic fancy
One-of-a-kind birdhouses and other unique artwork designed by Sonoma artists are available now at the Sonoma Community Center’s Birdhouse and Art Auction. Bids will be accepted through a closing party on February 12. Both functional and sculptural, the structures are rendered in media varying from metals, such as copper and steel, to earthy clay and wood. Bird-related artwork will also up for bid. www.sonomacommunitycenter.org.
Play the Bluegrass and nobody gets hurt
Full disclosure: It was Dr. Elmo who brought you the holiday hit song “Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer.” Hey, a guy’s gotta eat, right? As a member of Wild Blue, the venerable bluegrass quartet from Marin, he picks a mean banjo and steadies a three-part harmony that’s as clear and true as a Kentucky sunrise. Saturday night at Murphy’s Irish Pub, Dr. Elmo and Wild Blue proudly promise to play the classic tunes that other bluegrass bands refuse to play. www.SonomaPub.com
