Robledo Family wines bring home the gold

The Robledo’s hold the distinction of being North America’s first and only Mexican owned winery. They call themselves a family that found the American dream but winning gold at the recently held San Francisco Chronicle wine competition isn’t any old illusion. They are proud of their heritage and it shows in everything they do.

As evidence, the annual week-long SF Chron wine competition which concluded on January 8. Over the course of five days, 63 professional wine experts tasted and evaluated a world-record breaking 4,913 entries.

Among the winners, Robeldo Family Winery’s 2006 Pinot Noir, Los Carneros with a double gold medal and their 2007 Tempranillo, Lake County, which brought home another gold.

Also recognized, the winery’s 2008 Sauvignon Blanc, Lake County with a silver medal and their 2005 El Rey Cabernet Sauvignon from the Red Hills area of Lake County with a bronze medal.

Robledo Family Winery makes 22 different varietals. They source about one-third of their grapes from Lake County and the family is opening a new tasting room there in the coming weeks. The rest of their grapes are grown in both Napa and Sonoma counties.
