Edna Cannard died peacefully at home in Sonoma on Saturday March 27, 2010
She was born Edna Marie Taylor in 1926 at the Misericordia Hospital in the Bronx, NYC. During the depression, her family moved first to Long Island, and then to Milton Pennsylvania where Edna went to High School.
At a swimming club in nearby Danville she met lifeguard Bob Cannard. They were separated by WWII, when Edna worked as a draftsperson on US Navy projects, and were married in 1947.
In 1960, Bob and Edna drove across the country with their five boys to California, Edna describing the trip as the best family vacation she ever had. Another son followed, and the family moved from Kenwood to Sonoma.
Bob described his wife as the rock of the family, and Edna has maintained close friendships with all the significant people in her life – on both coasts. As the boys grew and left to make their own way, Edna revived her interest in art with wonderful oil paintings, and has been an active member of the Sonoma Historical Society.
Edna has died just a year after Bob, and is survived by her six sons.
At the family’s request, funeral arrangements will be private.
