Crosby, Stills & Nash 8pm
The music of David Crosby, Stephen Stills and Graham Nash is a cornerstone of rock ‘n roll. As Crosby, Stills & Nash (CSN), this trio of legendary singer-songwriters has been actively collaborating since 1969, when they first harmonized in either Joni Mitchell’s living room or Mama Cass Elliot’s dining room, depending on which member you ask. Wherever its point of origin, the connection they forged from day one, as artists and as friends, was profound and unbreakable. Essential elements of our pop culture experience, their songs are just as durable, conveying emotional truths and social consciousness in equal measure.
CSN takes the road again, as they have done on a recurrent basis ever since their very first gig together – before more than 500,000 people at Woodstock four decades ago. The tour’s launch coincided with CSN’s June 2009 induction into the New York City based Songwriter’s Hall of Fame. The honor follows their 1997 inductions into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Lizz Wright 6pm
“Wright’s voice emerges as an irresistible force of clarity and emotion.” —People Magazine
Lizz Wright’s 2003 debut solo album Salt, introduced her as both an accomplished songwriter and an effortlessly magnetic performer, earning her international acclaim and a number 2 spot on Billboard’s Contemporary Jazz chart. Dreaming Wide Awake followed in 2005, with a top position on the Billboard Contemporary Jazz chart. Her latest release, the largely self-penned The Orchard finds Wright mining her own experience to create an unmistakably personal musical statement. She has sealed her spot as one of the premier soul/jazz vocalists on the scene today.
Saturday
Earth, Wind & Fire 9pm
Legendary band Earth, Wind & Fire is simply one of the most important, innovative, and celebrated contemporary pop/R&B music forces of the 20th century. The band has had a remarkable career spanning over four decades with accolades, awards and record-breaking achievements.
Earth, Wind & Fire’s signature sound is not easily categorized and since its inception has been profoundly influential…musically, socially and spiritually. Successfully breaking all musical genre boundaries with 23 albums, Earth, Wind & Fire have recorded eight #1 R&B singles and eight Double Platinum Top 10 Pop Albums over their career. They have received 20 Grammy Award nominations and won 6 as a group. They have earned more than 50 Gold and Platinum albums and sold over 90 million albums worldwide, earning them a place on the list of best selling music artists of all time.
Poncho Sanchez 6:30pm
If music were about pictures, percussionist Poncho Sanchez’s music would best be described as a kaleidoscopic swirl of some of the hottest colors and brightest lights to emerge from either side of the border. At any given show, on any given record, fragments of Latin jazz, swing, bebop, salsa and other infectious grooves collide and churn in a fiery swirl, with results that are no less than dazzling.
All of these sounds and more come together in Psychedelic Blues, Sanchez’s twenty-fourth recording on Concord Records. Sanchez says, “there’s room for a lot of different sounds in our music. I think people have come to know that that’s what Poncho Sanchez is all about. We put it all together in a pot, boil it together and come out with a big stew. This isn’t some marketing strategy to sell records. These are the sounds I grew up with. So when I play this music, I’m not telling a lie. I’m telling my story. This is the real thing.”
Sunday
Elvis Costello & the Sugarcanes 8pm
Elvis Costello has followed his musical curiosity in a career spanning more than 30 years. He is perhaps best known for his performances with The Attractions, The Imposters and for concert appearances with pianist Steve Nieve. However, he has also entered into acclaimed collaborations with Burt Bacharach, The Brodsky Quartet, Paul McCartney, Swedish mezzo-soprano Anne Sofie von Otter, guitarist Bill Frisell, composer Roy Nathanson, The Charles Mingus Orchestra, record producer and songwriter T Bone Burnett and Allen Toussaint.
Costello’s latest album “Secret, Profane and Sugarcane,” produced by T Bone Burnett and recorded by Mike Piersante, was released in 2009. The album debuted at #13 on the Billboard 200, Costello’s highest album chart position since 1980s Get Happy.
The Neville Brothers 5:30pm
The differences between the four Neville Brothers are as dramatic as the similarities that unite them. The source of the similarities is passionate funk, a feeling for blues-soaked deep pocket grooves that is the basis of their greatness and exalted place in our cultural history.
Art is the oldest. They call him Poppa Funk for a reason. As both inspired singer and blistering keyboardist, he formed the first band. Charles is younger than Art. His religions are bebop and Buddhism. His instrument the saxophone. Aaron is a believer, a devout Catholic whose vocal aesthetic is down right angelic. Cyril is the baby, a generation younger than his brothers. A writer, percussionist and powerhouse singer. Their story starts in the fifties and continues today. They continue to provoke, entertain and excite audiences around the globe while their similarity/diversity dynamic continues on its paradoxical path.

Saturday, May 22 – 6 & 7:45pm : LORD LOVES A WORKING MAN
Lord Loves a Working Man is a 9-piece band inspired by the raw and emotive sound of the Southern soul shouters and horn-driven Rhythm & Blues of the 1960’s. Mixing originals with obscure covers, LLAWM puts everything they’ve got into respectfully invoking the spirit of old soul music while giving it their own distinct voice.
Sunday, May 23 – 4:30 & 6:45pm: PABLO “MEZCLA” MENENDEZ AND CUBAN JAZZ ALLSTARS
The music of Pablo Menendez is as unique on the Cuban landscape as the man himself. The fact that he is a United States citizen living in Cuba for over 40 years has deeply influenced his musical choices, which have in turn influenced many young Cuban musicians.
Performing at the main entrance on Friday & Saturday are THE JAZZBERRIES, a high-school swing choir with live jazz band, supported by SJ+ In-Schools Programming.
