SF sculpture gallery merges with Sonoma location

Posted on August 19, 2010 by Sonoma Valley Sun

Sculpturesite Gallery, San Francisco’s only venue devoted to contemporary fine art sculpture since 2005, is merging with its sister gallery at Cornerstone Sonoma.

Re-named “a new leaf gallery I sculpturesite”, the gallery owners Brigitte Micmacker and John Denning will host a grand opening celebration at the Sonoma space on August 28 from 2 to 5 p.m.

“We felt it was time to consolidate our creative energies and focus on one spectacular gallery,” Micmacker said. The Sonoma gallery “provides ample opportunities to curate innovative exhibits and invent new ways to display sculpture, both indoors and out.”
The Sonoma gallery showcases fine art sculpture in the airy gallery and in surrounding patios and gardens. Visitors will also discover dynamic kinetic sculptures and monumental works in the garden and patios, and studio art jewelry in the gallery.

In addition to the spacious indoor space and the exhibition areas on the adjacent patios and gardens, Denning said, “we will be developing a Sculpture Walk throughout the grounds of Cornerstone.”

Curator-lead tours as well as special events with artists will be scheduled on a regular basis, he said. “We are very excited that we will be able to concentrate our creative energy on one venue.”

Micmacker and Denning, who founded A New Leaf Gallery in Berkeley 20 years ago specifically as an outdoor sculpture gallery, have long admired leading sculpture gardens such as The Donald M. Kendall Pepsi Sculpture Garden in Purchase, NY.

Jennifer Gately, executive director of the San Francisco Art Dealer Association (SFADA) remarks, “For over 20 years, Brigitte and John have shared their genuine passion, knowledge, and sensitivity in the realm of fine art sculpture with art enthusiasts in the Bay Area and afar. The gallery’s expanded location in Sonoma will be a welcome destination for those interested in enriching their lives with art.”
