On a typically foggy coastal morning several Sonoma Valley Teen Services teen leaders from the No-Name Café, The Teen Center and The Shop enjoyed a kayak tour of Tomales Bay. The tour came courtesy of a generous sponsor, who hired two guides from Blue Water Kayaking guides to share their love of the sea and the plant and animal life that thrive in bays and estuaries.

The group’s collective environmental awareness grew as they paddled through the bay water during their seven-mile adventure. The teens got to observe – close up – ducks, herons, moon jelly fish, red jelly fish and tiger sharks. The tour guides stopped along the way to point out the habitat and inter-relationship of plants, fish, insects, birds and mammals.

This was the first kayak trip offered by SV Teen Services, which offers programs in three locations. The teen center is located in Boyes Hot Springs, the No Name Café is located on the high school campus, and The Shop performance stage is located on Eighth Street East.
Valley of the Moon Teen Center, officially merged in June with Operation Youth, forming one 501c.3 nonprofit organization, called Sonoma Valley Teen Services. The mission of Sonoma Valley Teen Services is to empower teens to make positive choices for their health, safety, education and future.
