Thanksgiving spirit by the truckload

Ed Pedroncelli was one of many volunteers unloading 5,000 pounds of food Monday collected by Infineon Raceway for the non-profit group Friends in Sonoma Helping (FISH).

The 10th annual Thanksgiving Food Drive set a single-year record for donations, according to the raceway’s Jennifer Imbimbo. Now in the hands of FISH volunteers, the non-perishables will be sorted for Thanksgiving distribution to needy Valley families.

The track has the equipment and resources to make a real difference, Imbimbo said, and has generated more than 25,000 pound of food since the annual campaign began in 2001.

“We do it for our community,” said Imbimbo. “It’s important to us.”

The familiar black-and-white-checked donation barrels will now be placed in Valley grocery stores and other retailers to collect donated canned food for the Christmas holiday.
