A super retro 1973 Volkswagon Camper Van spontaneously combusted on Friday night displacing the driver quickly from the vehicle and summoning area fire personnel. The fire occurred at Second Street West and West Spain Street.
VW owner John Olson had just returned from a shopping trip to Santa Rosa when the unfortunate incident occurred. According to Olson, he smelled smoke as he parked and, as he exited the vehicle, noticed flames shooting from the rear – where the engine compartment is.
Neighbor Oliver Simons noticed smoke and flames and elected to douse the van with a garden hose before the fire truck arrived.
Lost, one cool VW Camper Van.
