A $7000 donation to the Sonoma Jazz+ In-School Music Programming came thanks to Union Bank. The donation will be used to purchase various neew instruments from local retailer, Sonoma Valley Music.
At a presentation at the May 21 concert at Sonoma Jazz+, Union Bank Executive Vice President and Chairman and CEO of the Union Bank Foundation, Julius Robinson presented instruments to five students from the Elementary Honor Band who were recognized for their involvement in music programming in Sonoma area schools. Music Coordinator for the Sonoma Valley School District, Barbara McElroy was also in attendance.
“We are pleased to provide these instruments, which will benefit students of every age studying music in Sonoma schools,” said Robinson. “The need to support music programming has never been greater. As a founding sponsor, Union Bank has provided financial support to the Sonoma Jazz+ Festival since it began seven years ago and with the bank’s support, students like those in local Sonoma elementary school bands can take part in music education,” added Robinson.
In addition to the foundation donation, Union Bank’s Sonoma branch also collected donations in support of the Sonoma Jazz+ In-School Music Programming with every dollar raised going directly to support music education in Sonoma.
“Supporting music education and programming has been our sole focus, since we created Sonoma Jazz+,” said Sonoma Jazz+ CEO and President Jim Horowitz. “We would like to thank our presenting sponsor, Union Bank, for its long-standing support of Sonoma Jazz+, and for its generous donation intended to help bring music to even more students in Sonoma.”
