Sonoma Valley Teen Services is the recipient of low-mileage Dodge van courtesy of Keith Marion, the retired and former owner of Shaker and Amish Design Furniture Company. Marion has been a supporter of the programs offered by Sonoma Valley Teen Services for many years.
Last year Marion, whose furniture business was located on Highway 12 near the teen center, mentored a teen interested in becoming a furniture maker. Marion became aware of the camping trips, bicycle day trips and exploration of Bay Area museums that the teens take with program managers, Rebecca Hermosillo and Cristin Lawrence as well as other chaperones. Marion thought an extra vehicle would help the cause.
The teen center already owned a 12-passenger van, donated more than 10 years ago. Adding the Dodge van allows nine additional teens to participate in the trips and saves the organization from having to rent a vehicle for outings.
The van will also be used to transport products from the teen center kitchen to farmer’s markets where “Lovin’ Oven” products are sold. “Lovin’ Oven” is the teen-operated bakery at The Valley of the Moon Teen Center. It is one of the programs offered by Sonoma Valley Teen Services, which provides skill-based programs for teens. Experiential, hands-on and inspirational programs are designed to reinforce and foster students’ academic and career interests through involvement with the community and local businesses. Other programs include the No-Name Café, Art Wednesday and The Shop.
