Booze sting snags store clerk

Posted on September 20, 2011 by Sonoma Valley Sun

The kid trying to buy alcohol looked may have looked young, but was really an undercover agent on a police sting.

On September 17, 11 off-sale ABC licensed establishments were visited by underage decoys who attempted to purchase alcohol. Out of the eleven, only one store sold to the underage decoys. An employee of the Easy Stop Market in the 900 block of Broadway was cited for furnishing alcohol to a minor.

The employee was criminally cited and the store owner will face an administrative sanction by the ABC.

The decoys also went to the front of local establishments and asked adults to purchase alcohol for them. Four subjects accepted the decoys’ solicitation and purchased alcohol for the minors. All four were criminally cited for furnishing alcohol to a minor.

An undercover decoy operation was mounted by the Sonoma Police During and Alcohol Beverage Control with funds from a grant from the Deparment of Alcohol Beverage Control.
