Treasure Artist announced

Posted on September 23, 2011 by Sonoma Valley Sun

The Cultural and Fine Arts Commission has named Dennis Ziemienski the 2011 Treasure Artist of the Year.

An internationally known illustrator and designer, his artwork has adorned many posters for local events such as the Film Festival, the Bear Flag Sesquicentennial, Salute to the Arts, Napa Valley Mustard Festival and more.

Ziemienski, a native San Franciscan, graduated cum laude from the California College of Arts and Crafts.

He has had studios in California and New York. Traveling to Europe frequently, Ziemienski said, has led to an affinity for the architecture, lifestyle and light of the Mediterranean. In describing his work, he said his strong and richly colored images borrow much of their inspiration from early 20th century paintings and posters.

The decision was a tough one with many very gifted artists being nominated, according to City Clerk Gay Johan. Ziemienski was selected for his contributions as a talented teacher and artist, his contributions to the community as a whole and to the arts community.

The commission will host a reception in Ziemienski’s honor in the near future. Details of the reception will be announced at a later date.
