Mentoring workshop: people safety skills

Posted on January 30, 2012 by Sonoma Valley Sun

The Sonoma Valley Mentoring Alliance is hosting a Community Workshop for adults who work with girls. Kidpower, the non-profit leader in “People Safety Skills” for children of all ages, presents this tailored workshop on Feb. 2.

Mentors, parents, educators, administrators and community members are invited to join us and learn ways to help children and teens learn and use age-appropriate People Safety Skills on an everyday basis to have safer, more positive experiences with people, including strangers, siblings, peers, co-workers, and other people they know.

Bullying is a major concern in the world today. Children of all ages are feeling the effects of being bullied by their peers in many forms, such as, texting, cyber bullying, as well as, the old fashioned face-to-face aggression.

Kidpower teaches skills that build confidence & awareness, encourages children & teens to set boundaries, manage emotional triggers, use a strong voice, and move away from possible problems.

Adults will learn how to help children and teen girls become a strong advocate for themselves, and navigate through life in a positive, confident manner.

The Kidpower workshop, for adults only, is on Thursday, February 2, 2012 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the Little Theater on the Sonoma Valley High School Campus.
