Felix Justice stars in “The Remarkable Return of Ambrose Bierce,” in which the 19th century writer and satirist is reframed 100 years later as a black man. T
he show plays Andrews Hall at the Sonoma Community Center on Saturday and Sunday, May 5 and 6. “The notion of bringing Bierce back as a black man 100 years later is not as arbitrary as it might sound,” said playwright Bart Schneider. “Bierce was interested in race relations as early as the 1870s, writing repeated columns against the discrimination against the Chinese in San Francisco. His political arguments are particularly relevant today. He railed against a political system that favored corporations over individuals and that was driven by paid lobbyists.”
The 5 p.m. shows are directed by Michael French. $20. 276 E. Napa St. Sonomacomunitycenter.org
